Luigi Antonioli

Born in 1963 in the Stelvio National Park, Italian Alps.

A mechanic, mountain guide, mountain rescuer and helicopter-rescue technician in Italy, Luigi came to the US in 1995. Living in Colorado for six years and later in Manhattan for seven, it was only in 2008, when he moved to Connecticut and built a workshop that he emerged as an artist. Trained by leading a resourceful life in the mountains, and tooling around in the wood shop of his kids’ Waldorf School in Manhattan, Luigi’s experiences guiding clients in the Alps readily allow him to connect to the meaning and emotions humans attach to the natural world.  As an artist Luigi aspires to represent this connection of human emotion and experience with place and natural artifact.

Luigi prefers using found wood that holds a memory or a story and creating pieces that reflect the provenance of the material.  He primarily creates functional pieces— from ornamental jewelry to larger scale furniture— but has also enjoys developing more sculptural pieces and installations.
